Chateau Garreau
Over 300 years of Armagnac, over 100 years of family history
Already in the 17th century, agricultural and viticultural activity was present on the current lands of Château Garreau: the farms of Gayrosse and Brameloup (dating from the 17th century), which are among the oldest in the region, are among the first buildings on the estate.
As early as the 19th century, the estate's Armagnacs enjoyed a solid reputation: the Armagnacs of the Domaine de Gayrosse (its name at the time), which belonged to Prince Soukowo-Kabylin, were tasted and appreciated at the Russian Court.
1919 - 2022: A family history for over 100 years
"I wasn't destined to take over the estate but I think it was written somewhere deep inside me..." Carole Garreau, 4th generation
It is a know-how passed down from generation to generation that keeps the flame alive, between modernity and tradition in the production of this Bas-Armagnac.
The GRAND CRUS of Armagnac "My great grandfather chose to settle in 1919 on the best terroirs: the famous tawny sands, ochre-coloured sandy-silty soil, source of life and rare products. Carole Garreau.
Château Garreau is in the heart of the golden triangle of Armagnac, the "1st Grand Crus of Grand Bas Armagnac" as they were called. Also known as the Gayrosse estate, Château Garreau today covers 82 hectares, straddling the Landes and Gers departments. Its location, in the heart of Bas Armagnac, near the medieval town (13th century) of Labastide d'Armagnac, makes it one of the most beautiful jewels of Armagnac.
The 27 hectares of vines, mainly dedicated to Armagnac, are cultivated using sustainable agriculture. They flourish in a preserved environment, between woods and ponds.
Château Garreau has just obtained the High Environmental Value label, which recognises the environmentally friendly practices and the special attention paid to biodiversity by Château Garreau.
Divine nature, paradise in Gascony Its sunny terroir, its oak woods, its old underground cellar that is more than a century old, ideal for ageing Armagnacs, its Armagnac stills (1919 and 1932) still in use, give Château Garreau Armagnacs an incomparable personality, flavour and bouquet, where the scent of sloes and violets is fragrant.
